Deep Drawn Presswork
quality & precision
Deep drawing is a sheet metal forming process that progressively forms a sheet metal strip or blank into a three dimensional geometry. The process is considered deep drawn when the draw depth exceeds the part diameter.
Deep drawing presents a number of challenges regarding materials and their malleability and the level of work hardening resulting from the draw process; heat treatment (annealing) is used to restore elasticity for any further draw operations. Other factors to be considered are lubrication, dies and material which is used to aid the drawing process and can be used to leave a fine surface finish.
Benefits for deep drawn presswork include:
- Repeatable process to produce complex geometries in volume.
- Seamless shapes that reduce the interface in chambers, casings and containers.
- Ability to produce lightweight structures with strength.
